The 2-Year Master of Laws (LL.M.) is an advanced, post-graduate degree designed for legal graduates who wish to deepen their expertise in specialized legal domains.
Unlike undergraduate legal studies (LL.B.) which focus on general legal principles, the 2-Year LL.M. places a heavy emphasis on:
Legal Research & Methodology: Training students in critical legal writing, case analysis, and research frameworks.
Domain Specialization: In-depth study in key branches such as Corporate Law, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), or International Law.
Academic & Career Growth: Serving as the essential qualification for entering legal academia (teaching/professorship), Ph.D. research, specialized corporate advisory, or judicial services.
Total Course Duration: 2 Years
Academic Structure: Divided into 4 Semesters (6 months per semester).
Eligibility: Must hold an LL.B. (3-Year) or Integrated B.A. LL.B. / B.Com. LL.B. (5-Year) degree from a recognized university.
Internal Continuous Assessment (20% to 30% Weightage):
Sessional tests and mid-term exams.
Classroom seminar presentations and research paper submissions.
Class attendance and academic participation.
External University Theory Exams (70% to 80% Weightage):
Written examinations held at the end of each semester to test theoretical understanding, comparative analysis, and landmark case law interpretation.
Research & Practical Component (Final Year):
Master’s Dissertation (Thesis): Mandatory in-depth research work under faculty supervision submitted in the 4th semester.
Viva-Voce: Defense of the dissertation before an external panel of legal experts.
Teaching / Research Practicum: Practical exposure in classroom teaching assistance or legal research writing.
Research Methodology & Legal Writing: Research techniques, hypothesis formulation, and legal citations.
Law and Social Transformation in India: Legal frameworks for social reform, affirmative action, and secularism.
Indian Constitutional Law (New Challenges): Federalism, fundamental rights expansion, and judicial activism.
Judicial Process & Comparative Public Law: Legal reasoning, common law vs. civil law systems, and statutory interpretation.
