The Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) is a specialized postgraduate diploma designed to provide foundational and advanced technical skills in computer applications. It is structured for non-IT and IT graduates who want to build a career in software development, web design, database administration, or IT management. The curriculum bridges theoretical computer science concepts with hands-on practical execution.

  • Standard Duration: 1 Year (divided into 2 Semesters)

  • Mode: Regular / Full-Time (Part-time or Distance modes may extend up to 2 years depending on university rules).

  • Internal / Continuous Assessment (20% to 30% Weightage):

    • Mid-semester tests and class assignments

    • Lab activity files and attendance

  • External / Semester-End Theory Exams (70% to 80% Weightage):

    • Written examinations covering core theoretical concepts, programming logic, and system architectures.

  • Practical Examinations & Project Work:

    • End-of-semester practical lab exams in programming, web development, and database tools.

    • Final Semester Project & Viva-Voce: Development of a real-world software application/website accompanied by a project report and viva examination.

Semester 1: Fundamentals & Basic Programming

  • Fundamentals of Information Technology: Computer architecture, input/output devices, operating system basics (Windows/Linux).

  • Office Automation Tools: Advanced MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Access.

  • Programming in C / C++: Control structures, functions, pointers, arrays, and object-oriented concepts.

  • Database Management Systems (DBMS): SQL, relational database design, ER modeling, and data normalization.

  • Practical Lab I: C/C++ Programming & Office Tools Lab.

Semester 2: Advanced Applications & Web Development

  • Web Technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basics of PHP/ASP.NET for web design.

  • Data Communication & Computer Networks: Network topologies, LAN/WAN, ISO-OSI model, and internet security.

  • Advanced Programming / Python / Java: Object-oriented programming principles, application development, and data handling.

  • Software Engineering & System Analysis: Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), testing, and project management fundamentals.

  • Practical Lab II & Major Project Work: Hands-on web designing, SQL lab, and submission of a live software/web project.
